The purpose of test automation very often consists of the execution of various independent single tests in defined order. Sometimes the order of execution must be sequential, sometimes it must be parallel. A software framework which can provide this functionality is called test sequencer. Often times the test sequencer is programmed newly during a developement project. But in fact it needs a significant amount of ressources to get a fully functional test sequencer. If you have to make a decission „Make Or Buy“, please take a minute and let us introduce you another product of National Instruments: There is a software tool called TestStand, which has exactly the functionality described above. With TestStand you can accelerate the developement of test sequences. The big advantage of TestStand is the ability to combine code modules of different programming languages with flow control elements to easily create a so called test list. Futhermore it is possible to create individual Code Modules, custom tailored to your hardware pool, to standardize repeating measurement tasks and decrease the developement time. The necessary investment for licence cost is not for free, but you get a well-engineered product.
